Besides its natural aesthetic look there is a huge value raising because of its characteristics like longevity, permanence, ease of maintenance and stability. Thus in 21st century natural stones became much more available and affordable. Over the time passed, stone quarrying got advanced and technology got improved. We are able to operate faster due to automation. Being able to do fine cuts decreases the wastage, secures the consistency and optimizes productivity. In some cases, natural stone become even more affordable than man made stone like; ceramic, porcelain etc.
A properties’ value is based on its location, size and condition as well as the materials in it and buyers have more knowledge than ever nowadays. They do not invest their hard-earned money to a place and forget about it. They expect an increase in value. Details like natural stone makes the difference when it comes to boosting of the future selling price of their home. For example; many real estate professionals indicate that adding stone countertops to a home can result in a 200% R.O.I. when the house is sold.
Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters. Value of natural stone is not just in its longevity. Besides a marble installed at your backyard sitting there for hundreds of years, it will become more unique each and every day since it is natural source that is going to extinct one day. Long story short it is being accessible today doesn’t means it will be forever. It will be an investment that you will be thanking to yourself.
Since beginning of the human kind, we have put some values on things, rare things in the nature and its limited source helped to detect the value of the thing. Imagine hundreds of years ago even before Lydians invented the money, in Africa they were using seashells as a tool of trade.
Between 9,000 BC and 3,000 BC period called Neolithic Age human start to develop agricultural skills and that led nomadic societies to settle in permanent homes instead of living in temporary encampments. Those homes were buildings that are made of erected massive stones and carvings into bedrocks, oldest structures known of the human kind.
These ancient societies carved their hopes, fears and dreams into the Rock.Behind, they left obscure and mysterious pictograms and astonishingly clear animal drawings. They raised the very first megaliths, enormous rock monuments that stood and watched over sacrifices and religious ceremonies.
Those structures span the globe, throughout collective consciousness even though people were not able to receive news from away continents, they made homes, mazes, underground tombs and huge temples at almost at the same time range. The structures are as different as the peoples who made them. Each valued of its own holistic location and the local stones. Mother natures limited source.
Here comes the value that Milestone Pavers LLC brings to you. Imagine high mountains on another continent that is thousands of miles away. Behind those mountains, there is something magical. History of earth, natural stones from a specific area is being cut and designed to continue living under your foot step.
Natural stones variety and characteristics, unique pattern of each and every piece is what carries, history and soul of earth to your everyday living area. We believe this luxury shouldn’t be expensive. That’s why Milestone Pavers LLC has been carrying this soul and value which made in millions and trillions of years. And with our sourcing and distributing power over 2 decades now not only stars like Madonna and Shaquille O’Neil can have this luxury beneath their feet. You may afford the luxury under your foot step.
Our home Earth was once a giant massive gas mixed with liquid minerals. In a timeline, with pressure pushing down the heavier minerals closer to the core, Earth’s crust began to come into existence while lighter minerals migrated upwards in exchange and created magmatic ocean at the Earth’s surface.
It is believed that asteroids and comets hitting earths surface brought ice that then melted, brought water and created possibilities to life. Melting period was also the time were coral reefs became alive, tectonic movements that carried bottom of the seas to top of mountains and vice versa, these exchanges leaded the way to form our rock beds. Which are now our stone quarries that we mine. Many levels of pressure and heat meeting with variety of minerals created different type of bed rocks. Some of them are softer some of them are harder, in one geography we can see holes on surface as a characteristic in other one we can see veins. To sum up each area tells geological history within certain period ofEarth’s history. Every quarry, each stone gives us information about processes in the past.
Travertine stone is a natural stone and is available in various patterns and colors. Travertine is formed when springs deposit limestone. Than water travels over these deposits and the dissolved matter creates thin layers of calcite and aragonite, which are forms of calcium carbonate. These mineral layers build up into deposits of what is known as travertine.
Travertine stone is usually formed in blocks and then sliced into thinner slabs afterwards. All types of travertine stones can be supplied both as cross cut and vein cut. This depends on how the travertine blocks are sawn, if in favour or against the natural vein of this stone. By simply changing the sawing direction of the travertine block, one can have a stone that present a complete different look, however it is the same stone.
What is the difference between Cross Cut and Vein Cut Travertine?
With a cross cut, the piece of the stone is cut vertical (at a 90-degree angle) to the bed rock. In other words, when the block is cross-cut, it goes across the bedding, and reveals circular patterns in the stone. For example when one cuts a tree against the grain, the rings in it will be seen. With cross cut, the surface presents a fairly non-uniform background, composed by several light and dark clouded areas.
For further information please see our Da Vinci Cross Cut Travertine Paver.
Vein cut means that the stone is cut parallel to the natural bedding plane. By cutting with the grain the pattern that’s revealed is linear, and although it’s the same stone, it appears totally different from the pattern revealed with a cross-cut. Compressed sediment within the stone comes in light and dark layers, and vein cuts show these different tones.
Travertine Pavers Colors
The types of colours and patterns of travertine pavers revealed depend on the type of natural stone used.
Here is a list of most popular colors of travertine pavers:
- Cream Color
As mentioned, travertine pavers are cut from natural stone, and there are different processes to improve its look. They can be installed in a wide range of eye-catching travertine pavers patterns and designs.
Travertine Pavers Finishes
Travertine pavers can be finished in different ways: Tumbled, Honed, Brushed, Filled, Filled & Honed, Chiseled, Bush Hammered, Polished
Chiseled Travertine refers to the edges while all the other finishes refer to the actual surface.
- Hоnеd Travertine: The term honed refers to polishing or sanding the pavers. A honed finish appears glossy and has a matte or sheen look with a smooth texture. In order to achieve a honed finish, the travertine is ground on one side.
- Polished Travertine: A polished finish requires filling the holes in the travertine. Similar to the honed finish, the travertine is sleek and smooth to touch.
- Chiseled Travertine: The edges of the stone is distressed by a machine which uses steel chains to give a randomly chiseled look.
- Tumbled Travertine: Many holes are present. The edges and corners are rough and/or wavy. The travertine has an overall “rough” and rustic look, so the travertine is tumbled to provide more texture. This process can take 3-5 weeks and requires the travertine to be coated with rubber or plastic barrel with grit and water. The holes in the travertine can be filled or unfilled depending on the look one wants to achieve.
- Filled Travertine: Existing holes are filled, often with a grout. The fillings can be seen if one looks closely but normally they are not noticeable. Filling the holes creates a smoother look.
One can either have stone that is just filled, honed, chiseled or combinations of those finishes are also possible like Chiseled & Honed, Chiseled & Filled or Honed & Filled & Chiseled.

Travertine is formed by the precipitation of hot water that emerges from the ground in nature. This precipitate lasts for millions of years and forms very thick layers. These layers harden over time and come to consistency to be cut and processed. Travertine can be considered as a kind of marble, but it is separated from the marble with its unique porous structure. These cavities in the travertine are caused by the gases trapped in the formation of the travertine and subsequently released.
Travertine tiles are the most popular and preferred type of natural stone tile in natural stone paving. It is preferred because of its unique appearance arising from the shape of travertine formation. Travertine tiles are available in various colors from dark brown to almost white to beige. Sometimes there are veins of different colors on the surface. It is seen as a unique color fluctuation in each travertine tile.
Due to its natural colors and texture, travertine is the most prominent stone among the natural stones in recent times. It’s a perfect choice for both modern-looking and antique-looking decoration with its decorative and long lasting features. In addition to its different color options, it offers, different surface treatment possibilities and many ways and patterns of laying.
The followings are the Pros and Cons of Travertine Tiles:
Major Pros of Travertine Tiles:
- Travertine Tiles are More Economical Than Other Natural Stones
Travertine tiles can give almost the same look and similar durability as marble or granite tiles and they are about twice as cheap as other alternatives.
- Travertine Tiles are Very Durable
Travertine tiles are very durable (water and moisture resistant). They do not crack easily when they’re maintained properly. Travertine tiles are also very resilient against extreme weather fluctuations so they are suitable both for outdoor and indoor installations (pool, garden pathway, wall of the house, etc.).
- Travertine Has a Non-Slippery Texture
Travertine tiles has a naturally non-slippery texture which makes it ideal for swimming pools, bathrooms, showers, floors and on pool decks. Due to its holes and pits – porous surface- travertine tiles are rough and easy to grip and walk on.
Major Cons of Travertine Tiles:
- Travertine Tiles are Sensitive to Acidic Substances
Despite its durability and natural appearance, travertine is sensitive to acidic substances such as alcohol, coffee, vinegar and orange juice etc. When an acidic substance, orange or lemon juice, spill on the travertine tiles, there is always a risk of a permanent stain since the acidic solvent will react with the calcium carbonate of the stone. The solution is a procedure that should be carried out immediately right after laying travertine tiles on the floor and should then be repeated regularly.
- Travertine Tiles are Heavier Than Other Natural Stones
Travertine sheets and tiles are heavy and are recommended to be assembled with the help of an expert. Additionally, the strength of the surface on which the travertine is to be placed is important. The floor must be rigid enough and there must be a sufficiently strong wall to prevent sagging and bending depending on the weight of the material.
- Travertine Tiles Require Maintenance and Care
Travertine may be considered as durable or resilient however it requires more attention compared to other flooring options such as granite, ceramic or vinyl. The pores in travertine tiles’ surface can allow spilled liquids and staining agents to seep into the material and cause damage. This problem can be resolved by applying a sealer. The sealant helps to protect the travertine against dirt buildups and prolongs the life of the tile. Additionally, since acid-rich products can color the flooring seriously and stain easily, type of the cleaning product is also very important.

Travertine stone is a kind of building material which is used in its pure form, which is generally found in nature, and is very durable and long lasting. The colors are usually brown. These stones, which can be found in light or dark tones, are usually found in warm tones of brown. Travertines are first removed from the travertine quarries. It is then shaped in factories. Generally, the nature of the substance is maintained during processing. Shaped without using chemicals and colorants. There are different methods for shaping and cutting travertines. The texture of the material varies according to different sections. Although it does not seem solid due to its perforated structure, it is actually a very hard and durable stone. Optionally, the cavities are filled with various fillers to make these natural stones even more durable.
One of the best known properties of travertine tiles is that it is a non-slip building material. For this reason, it is frequently used on wet surfaces such as poolside, shower cabin and bathroom surfaces, piers and beach areas. This affordable and high performance material is one of the most preferred natural stones. Another important feature is that it is quite robust and durable. Travertine stones, which are frequently preferred in walls and pavements, are very successful materials in terms of price performance. You can safely use travertine stone pavements which will be a long term investment for years. Travertine marble and stones cut in various lengths and patterns are frequently used for decoration. As a complement to the decorations with its elegant and noble appearance, it is a material that has always been seen and has increased its popularity in recent times.

How to Clean Travertine Tile
Abrasive chemical cleaners or acidic products should not be used to clean travertine tiles. Travertine stone is by nature an alkaline substance and may come into contact with acidic materials and stain and discolor.
- Regular cleaning
Sweep or vacuum the floor weekly to remove small dirt and sand particles that may cause small abrasive marks on the travertine tile surface. Over time, these tiny particles can also degrade the gloss of the material by removing the protective sealing coating, leaving the stone beneath it vulnerable to discoloration and staining.
- Wiping Travertine Tiles
The best way to mop a travertine tile is to use warm, flat water, apply with a dry mop or sponge, and so that the surface is barely moistened. Do not impregnate travertine tiles with water, as they may penetrate outside the sealant or grout lines; this leads to discoloration, deterioration and mold formation.
- Disinfect Travertine Tiles
For disinfection purposes, a soft, non-acidic dish soap may be added to a gallon of water and used to clean travetine tiles. However, when this is done, the surface must be mopped a second time with clean water to remove any remaining residue. Using a dry towel is also recommended. Disinfection does not have to be done with every wipe, but it is a good idea to do it once a month.
- Cleaning Grout Lines
The mortar lines between the tiles allow the material to expand and contract during seasonal temperature fluctuations, preventing individual parts from rubbing and cracking each other. However, travertine flooring can be the most vulnerable point in your installation because these areas are susceptible to water leakage, stains, discoloration, and growth of the dark, ugly and unhealthy mold.
To clean the travertine mortar lines, mix an equal amount of baking soda and water and form a sandy paste. This can be applied with a small brush on the grout, allowing you to wash the areas between the tiles without scratching the edges and damaging the material. This can be done completely, as the joints themselves will not wear or damage under pressure.
Commercial mortar cleaners used for ceramic tiles usually contain bleaches. Do not use them on travertine plates, as bleach can corrode the stone.
- Sealing Travertine
One of the biggest problems with natural travertine flooring is that the travertine tiles have microscopic pores that can absorb liquids on the surface, causing stains, discoloration, material deterioration and mold formation. The way to combat this is to ensure that the material is properly sealed both during and after the installation and then periodically throughout its existence.
There are two types of sealing material used in travertine floors. The first is a material that seeps down and clogs the pores, making it difficult to invade moisture from the stone, penetrating deeply. A surface protective sealant may then be used to form a clean coating on the top of the tiles, thereby preventing staining agents from discoloring.
After the first sub-surface sealant has been brushed, the barrier surface coatings are generally re-applied every few years to maintain the protective properties of this process.
Travertine tiles tend to be light in color, but adding sealant can deepen these shades and give them a slightly glossy appearance. Some people like this, and if this is the effect you want, you should often re-apply the sealant. On the other hand, some people prefer a worn look that can be achieved by using less. Most stone manufacturers recommend a period of three to five years for optimal protection of the floor.
Travertine is a very elegant, first-class flooring material, and regular cleaning and sealing make it look its best for decades.

Benefits of Pavers
The most important reason why paving is done is protection. Surfaces that have not been paved with travertine pavers or other concrete paving systems is sensitive to the elements. Rough weather conditions like rain and wind can wash off the sand and over time this can cause surfaces to become damaged and hard to repair. This can also be dangerous to various structures such as swimming pools and walls. As the soil is washed away gradually, the foundation of these structures may be compromised and cause a safety risk. However, paving prevents the damage and offers protection. Additionally, damaged surfaces require costly repairs but with paving, the damage is prevented and money is saved.
Whether it’s home or commercial sites, the first thing people see is the exterior. Paving of walkways, driveways, and pathways is as important as having a well-maintained neighborhood. A neighborhood that isn’t well landscaped leaves a bad impression on visitors; in the same way, an unpaved or damaged walkway, driveway, and pathway will do. Paving improves the aesthetic appeal of the property which also increases the value of the property. There are number of different paving solutions available these days, and the most beautiful paving effects can be created with simulated stone paving like tarvertine paver.
A surface that is not paved may develop a muddy surface after rain. It may lead to an uneven coat that blocks the traffic and creates safety concerns. However, if a paved surface is taken care of, it may last for years. A paved surface does not get uneven after rain. Longevity is one of the major benefits that make people get pavements.
Stone (travertine paver), asphalt, and concrete are some of the most durable pavement construction materials that can last a lifetime. Regular maintenance such as filling in cracks or gaps can prevent further damage and save one from having to spend lots amounts on getting the surface solid after every rain.
When it comes to pavers, there are other questions like; What’s the best way to keep them in a good healthy condition?, What is the best way to seal a travertine paver? and Why is it such a good idea to seal the travertine paver? Sealing your paver is like waxing your car. Everyone enjoys a new wax to their car. The difference with paver is that you’re wanting long lasting durability for it. If you do not keep them clean and sealed, you risk damage to the entire structure.
